SolidSafe™ Duo: charging, screen and controls
For SolidSafe Duo 5K, model B8-05. Check the model number on your power bank or its box. If yours says B7-05, use its included manual or contact support@heybmx.com for the correct instructions.
1. Charge your phone
Wireless: attach Duo to a compatible phone using its magnetic charging surface.
Wired: connect the USB-C lanyard cable to your device. Use this connection when you want the highest available charging output.
The screen shows Duo’s remaining battery level and live charging power. You can adjust the rotating ring stand for hands-free viewing while charging.
Watch: how Duo charges
Why the watts change, in about a minute.
2. Get the most from your charging speed
Duo provides up to 20W through USB-C or up to 15W wirelessly when you’re using one charging method at a time.
These are maximum outputs. The number on the screen changes with your device’s current power needs, compatibility, Duo’s battery level and charging conditions. Seeing a lower number doesn’t by itself mean something is wrong.
For the highest available output to one device, use USB-C on its own. If another device is charging wirelessly, disconnect it to return to single-device operation.
3. Charge two devices, or charge while plugged in
Can I charge two devices at once?
Yes. Connect one device through USB-C and place the other on the wireless charging surface. Duo shares its output: 10W through USB-C and 5W wirelessly.
The single-device maximums don’t apply while both outputs are in use.
Can Duo recharge while it charges my phone?
Yes. Connect Duo to a USB-C power adapter while your phone charges wirelessly. This is often called pass-through charging.
The screen has a separate status display for this combination, so you can distinguish it from charging two devices using Duo’s battery.
4. Recharge Duo
Connect Duo’s USB-C port to a USB-C power adapter. The screen shows charging progress and reaches 100% when Duo is fully charged.
The included USB-C lanyard cable works for recharging Duo as well as charging your device.
Duo accepts up to 15W input. The included cable is rated for 60W, but that rating doesn’t change Duo’s own charging limits.
Use a certified USB-C power adapter. The manual recommends a cable rated for 60W or higher; the included cable meets that recommendation.
5. Understand the screen and button
What do the numbers mean?
The large percentage shows how much charge Duo has left. The number followed by W shows the live charging power.
The screen also shows which charging connection is active:
- Teal USB screen: Duo is charging your device through USB-C
- Teal wireless-charging screen: Duo is charging your device wirelessly
- Yellow USB screen: Duo itself is recharging
- Teal USB+Qi screen: Duo is charging two devices, one wired and one wireless
- Mixed yellow-and-teal USB+Qi screen: Duo is recharging while charging your phone wirelessly
When nothing is charging, the display shows Duo’s battery percentage. The numbers pictured in the manual are examples; your readings will change during use.
How do I turn off the screen?
Press the power button twice to switch off the LCD. Charging continues.
Press the button once to wake the display and check the battery level. The screen also turns off automatically to save power.
How do I turn Duo itself on or off?
Press and hold the power button on the side of Duo.
The BMX logo appears briefly at power-up. It doesn’t need to appear each time the screen changes.
6. If charging isn’t working
Start with the display
If the screen is dark, press the button once. It may simply be asleep or have been switched off.
If Duo won’t power up, connect it to a USB-C charger first. A depleted battery can prevent the startup logo from appearing.
If a warning appears
- FOD: a metal or foreign object has been detected on the wireless charging surface. Remove the object
- OCP / SCP: overcurrent or short-circuit protection. Disconnect your device and check the cable
- OTP: temperature protection. Remove the connected device and let Duo cool before using it again. If the warning persists, stop using Duo and contact support
Use Duo within an ambient temperature range of 0–35°C / 32–95°F. Stop using it if it is damaged, swollen, emits smoke or has a burning smell. Don’t attempt to open or repair it.
