The charger doesn't push. The phone pulls. Every modern USB-C charger uses USB Power Delivery: the phone asks, the charger sends exactly that.
So a bigger charger can't hurt your phone. A smaller one just slows it down.
The only number that matters for iPhone Duo: 60W
Apple says iPhone Duo goes from drained to up to 50 percent in around 20 minutes, "with 60W-capable adapter or higher." Apple tested it with its 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max (real name) and its USB-C Charge Cable.
Translated:
- Under 60W: you won't see Apple's number.
- 60W or more: you're there. 70W isn't faster than 60W for this phone. It's insurance.
- 50 percent in 20 minutes is not 100 in 40. Charging slows as the battery fills, and Apple hasn't said how much power the phone actually takes.

Can I just use my old 20W iPhone charger?
Sure. It'll charge. Just slower than Apple's 20-minute number, which needs 60W. Apple hasn't published a time for 20W.
Will a 70W or 100W charger hurt iPhone Duo?
No. The phone asks, the charger answers. A bigger charger is headroom, not pressure.
Do I need a special cable?
Start with the one in the box. Apple ran its 20-minute test with its USB-C Charge Cable, and that's the cable iPhone Duo ships with.
